Bank Holidays in Assam during September

All the banks in Assam will remain closed on the above-mentioned days. The banks will not perform the usual functioning on these days. All the banks including Federal Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and RBL Bank will remain closed on the bank holidays.

Janmashtami: It is a Hindu festival. It marks the birth of Krishna, the eighth avatar of Lord Vishnu. It is observed as per the Hindu lunisolar calendar, on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha during the Hindu month of Shraavana. It is one of the most important festivals of the Vaishnavism tradition. It is celebrated with high spirit in Mathura and Vrindavan, as it is believed that Krishna spent his childhood days in these two cities. People fast on this day, they sing bhajans and hymns of the god Krishna and keep a vigil into the night. After Krishna’s midnight hour birth, statues of baby Krishna will be washed and adorned with colorful clothes and then placed in a cradle. The devotees later break their fast, by sharing food and sweets.

Kanya Sankranti: Kanya Sankranti is the time when Sun changes its position from one rashi to another. During Kanya Sankranti, the Sun moves from Simha Rashi (Leo) to Kanya Rashi (Virgo) and hence the name Kanya Sankranti. Donations, Shradh puja for the ancestors, and penance rituals will be performed on this day. A sacred ritual of taking bath in sacred water bodies to get rid of sins will be performed by some people on this day.

On this day, Vishwakarma Puja will also be done as it marks the birth of Lord Vishwakarma, who is considered the engineer who was instrumental in designing the universe in which we live in. Vishwakarma is also considered the architect of gods.

It is not a bank holiday on the occasion of Kanya Sankranti and Vishwakarma Puja. The banks will work as usual on this day.
