He lead a reform movement in Kerala by rejecting casteism and promoting new values of spiritual freedom and social equality among all sections of society. To commemorate his death, Shree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day will be held annually. On this day people throng Maha Samadhi and offer their prayers starting in the early morning.
