SBI InTouch Contactless Debit Card: All You Need To Know

SBI InTouch Contactless Debit Card is a multi-purpose international debit card which comes with contactless technology.

 

What this means is that the customer can make electronic payments by just waving the contactless card near the PoS terminal without any need for dipping or swiping the Card on PoS, thereby the Debit card will always be in the customer's custody.

Payments will be faster under this technology and the card will be under customer custody for items up to Rs 2000/- as there is no need to enter PIN.

Contactless debit cards also works as regular debit cards where a customer can withdraw cash from ATM, shopping at merchant outlets, online/e-commerce transactions etc.

In the first phase, SBI InTouch Contactless Debit Cards will be accepted at Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar outlets in nine cities.

There is also a cashback promotion offer for a period of six months. Shoppers at Big Bazaar and Food Bazaar can now get a 10% cashback on minimum transaction value of INR 500, up to a maximum cashback of INR 500 per calendar month.

This offer is valid if payment is made by just waving their SBI InTouch Contactless Debit Cards on NFC enabled PoS terminals, in these nine cities.

The Visa payWave enabled contactless cards ensure that transactions are secure, as the card never leaves the hands of the customer, thereby reducing the risk of card loss and fraud. It also reduces queuing time for customers as checkouts are faster.

What are the charges involved?

There is charges for issuing the card. However, customer has to pay annual maintainer fee of Rs 150 rom the second year of issue plus service tax and education cess as applicable. For card replacement the charge is Rs 200 + Service Tax+ Education cess.

Benefits of having SBI Intouch contactless debit card

(a) No PIN is required up to Rs 2000 per contactless transaction.

(b) PIN is mandatory for all the transactions above the value of Rs 2000 per transaction.

(c) Maximum transaction limit is up to Rs 2000 for the contactless mode.

(d) Maximum five such contactless transactions are permitted during a day.

(e) Maximum value of all contactless transactions in a day is up to Rs 10,000/-

What happens if the card is stolen?

If the card is stolen or lost one has to report to the bank immediately to block the card. Here are 3 instances which can happen if your card is lost.

1) A fraudster may use the contactless card for a maximum value up to Rs 2000 per transaction at a merchant location.

2) The fraudster may do a maximum of five contactless transactions for a maximum alue not exceeding Rs 10,000 in a day.

3) The number of fraudulent transactions in a day will be dependent on; how many contactless transactions have already been done on the card before losing the debit Card.

Note that the bank is not liable for any financial loss arising out of the unauthorized use of the card till such time the bank hotlists the card.
