Maharashtra's mighty Tiger, Balasaheb Thackeray roars no more

Balasaheb Keshav Thackeray, a cult figure and someone who transformed Maharashtra politics, was given a 21 gun salute, as his mortal remains were entrusted to the holy flames on Sunday amid millions of mourners who had come to pay their final farewell to the Tiger and the invincible soul of "Mumbai".

Balasaheb Thackeray, an enduring icon; a true son of India; pride of Maharashtra - the Hindu heartland; symbol of Hindu self-respect and resurgence, brought Mumbai to a halt for one last time as sea of people and Shiv Sena supporters descended on the streets leading from "Matoshree", Thackeray's Bandra home, to Shivaji Park.


Politicians like LK Advani, Nitin Gadkari, Sharad Pawar, Narendra Modi; Bollywood stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Nana Patekar and industriliasts Anil Ambani, Venugopal Dhoot and Subhash Chandra were present the funeral.
