Sensex opens higher, led by consumer goods stocks Analysis for Jun 02, 2014

The Indian benchmark was trading in green in the early session of day's trade. Consumer Goods sector stocks were on the rise with Suzlon Energy leading the pack followed by Sadbhav Engineering, Larsen & Tourbo, AIA Engineering and Pipavav Defence & Offshore Engineering Company.

At 9:33 AM BSE SENSEX was at 24314.22 up by 96.88 points or by 0.4 per cent and then NSE Nifty was at 7264.05 up by 34.1 points or by 0.47 per cent.

The BSE MIDCAP was at 8544.34 up by 77.12 points or by 0.91 per cent while the BSE SMLCAP was at 9075.74 up by 60.01 points or by 0.67 per cent.

The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE out of total shares traded 1580 , shares advanced were 1107 while 427 shares declined and 46 were unchanged

The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs.1614.40,+4.23 per cent), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 2986.20,+1.52 per cent),GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 382.45,+1.39 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs.347.90,+1.13 per cent), Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 1973.70,+1.05 per cent),among others.

The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindustan Unilever Ltd.(Rs. 591.60,-1.56 per cent), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs.2420.65,-1.12 per cent), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 276.45,-1.09 per cent), Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 1217.45,-1.06 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 601.80,-0.92 per cent), among others.

Among the sectoral indices on BSE, BSE_CGS index was at 15170.24 up by 453.43 points or by 3.08 per cent. Suzlon Energy Ltd. (Rs. 23.75,+8.15 per cent), Sadbhav Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 180.10,+4.83 per cent),Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1614.40,+4.23 per cent), AIA Engineering Ltd. (Rs. 780.00,+3.79 per cent), Pipavav Defence & Offshore Engineering Company Ltd. (Rs. 69.50,+2.81 per cent)
