Mirroring positive global cues from the Asian peers, the key domestic benchmark indices continued to trade firm during the morning trading session.
The 30-share benchmark index was over 100 points led by gains in ITC, Infosys, TCS, HDFC Bank, and Coal India.
Tracking the momentum, the 50-share Nifty index surged over 40 points to reclaim its crucial psychological level of 8700, supported by gains in auto, banks, IT, metal and pharma stocks.
On the global front, the Asian markets have made a positive start, as some of the indices have moved toward a nine-month high, led by Hong Kong shares.
At 10:12AM BSE SENSEX was at 28627.95, up by 111.36 points or by 0.39 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8702.45, up by 42.15 points or by 0.49 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 11032.72, up by 82.18 points or by 0.75 per cent, while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11603.93, up by 172.85 points or by 1.51 per cent.
The BSE Sensex touched an intraday high of 28687.39 and an intraday low of 28601.49, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8716.3 and an intraday low of 8692.95.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Coal India Ltd. (Rs. 370.90,+3.20%), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 413.25,+2.15%), Reliance Industries Ltd. (Rs. 846.60,+1.66%), Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (Rs. 3657.95,+1.58%), Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (Rs. 2618.75,+1.26%), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 193.50,-1.95%), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 312.90,-1.73%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 330.30,-0.99%), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 154.50,-0.96%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 1143.50,-0.73%), among others.
