The Indian benchmarks ended on a lower note on account of a continues selling spree by FIIs in the midst of uncertainties surrounding taxation along with a mixed bag of corporate earnings. Also, investors remained cautious ahead of the April F&O expiry due tomorrow. Crude oil prices dipped on Wednesday as oversupply outweighed political uncertainty in Saudi Arabia where King Salman relieved the crown prince as well as several senior ministers and the chief executive of national oil company Saudi Aramco. On the sectoral front, BSE FMCG, Metal and Auto indices are trading lower up to 1.5 per cent. However, BSE Healthcare, IT, Bankex, Consumer Durables, Realty indices are trading higher up to 2 per cent. The BSE SENSEX closed at 27225.93 down by 170.45 points or by 0.62 per cent and then NSE Nifty ended at 8239.75 down by 45.85 points or by 0.55 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP closed at 10408.76 up by 40.29 points or by 0.39 per cent while the BSE SMLCAP ended at 10960.52 up by 119.65 points or by 1.1 per cent
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 552.90,+3.30 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 366.05,+2.01 per cent), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 541.40,+1.87 per cent), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 939.25,+1.61 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd. (Rs. 330.15,+1.07 per cent), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 387.50,-3.32 per cent), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 328.20,-2.76 per cent), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 207.15,-2.15 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1201.80,-2.11 per cent), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 519.95,-1.87 per cent), among others.
The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were Ambuja Cements Ltd. (Rs. 238.30,+3.36 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 551.95,+3.17 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 365.85,+2.22 per cent), HCL Technologies Ltd. (Rs. 887.20,+1.92 per cent), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 541.65,+1.77 per cent), among others.
The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were Idea Cellular Ltd. (Rs. 181.55,-5.37 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 387.35,-3.34 per cent), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 328.15,-2.78 per cent), Sesa Sterlite Ltd. (Rs. 207.05,-2.29 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1201.15,-2.21 per cent), among others.
Among the thirteen sectoral indices, FMCG index was leading the decline and closed at 7699.62 down by -127.88 points or by -1.63 per cent. Safal Herbs Ltd.
