The Indian benchmarks ended on a positive note with capital goods and oil shares leading the gains. Meanwhile, Asian markets edged lower after the negotiations between Greece and its international creditors failed. Wall Street also ended lower amid Greece debt crisis. Sectorally, BSE Capital Goods, Bankex and Auto indices are leading the rally, up by-- per cent while selling pressure is witnessed in BSE IT and FMCG indices. Vedanta has jumped over 2 per cent after the company along with Cairn India initiated the merger process by filing the scheme of arrangement along with the relevant documents with the stock exchanges. The BSE SENSEX closed at 27895.97, up by 166.3 points or by 0.6 per cent and then NSE Nifty closed at 8398, up by 37.15 points or by 0.44 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP closed at 10689.75, up by 72.37 points or by 0.68 per cent while the BSE SMLCAP closed at 11109.3, up by 25.65 points or by 0.23 per cent.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2506.25,+4.65 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 412.50,+3.44 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1806.90,+3.28 per cent), Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 1308.90,+2.20 per cent), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 179.70,+2.10 per cent), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 553.80,-2.03 per cent), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 610.90,-1.74 per cent), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 883.85,-1.28 per cent), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 313.85,-1.27 per cent), NTPC Ltd. (Rs. 135.55,-0.95 per cent), among others.
The top gainers of the NSE Nifty pack were Bajaj Auto Ltd. (Rs. 2504.30,+4.67 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 412.75,+3.38 per cent), Cairn India Ltd. (Rs. 187.90,+3.27 per cent), Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1809.75,+3.22 per cent), IndusInd Bank Ltd. (Rs. 867.15,+2.68 per cent), among others.
The top losers of the NSE Nifty pack were Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (Rs. 529.80,-2.84 per cent), Wipro Ltd. (Rs. 552.15,-2.34 per cent), Cipla Ltd. (Rs. 610.75,-1.77 per cent), Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (Rs. 312.95,-1.56 per cent), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 883.25,-1.48 per cent), among others.
Among the thirteen sectoral indices, capital goods index was leading the rise and closed at 17755.64, up by 369.02 points or by 2.12 per cent led by Larsen & Toubro Ltd. (Rs. 1806.90,+3.28 per cent), ABB India Ltd. (Rs. 1361.75,+2.92 per cent), Crompton Greaves Ltd. (Rs. 165.95,+2.22 per cent), Kalpataru Power Transmissions Ltd. (Rs. 257.35,+1.78 per cent), Va Tech Wabag Ltd. (Rs. 767.35,+1.40 per cent).
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE, out of total shares traded 2763, shares advanced were 1326 while 1317 shares declined and 120 were unchanged.
