The Indian Government has said that it is planning to unveil a road map for states to improve governance and evaluate the progress of development, media reported. As per reports, NITI Aayog has recently written to all states proposing to jointly work with them to develop a toolkit to help improve governance.
The initiative will be the first occasion when a Centre Government is reaching out to the states with a road map for governance.
Commenting on the issue, a NITI Aayog Official told the media, "We at NITI would be delighted to work with the state government to drive the objectives of development and governance."
"Working together we should be able to put together a baseline document in four months, if not sooner," he added.
As per reports, the template proposed by the Aayog includes developing a set of indicators from district level upwards which could be used to benchmark improvements over time, to come up with ways of rationalising all government expenditure schemes, to help states rationalise their government departments, review all state-level law with a view to standardise, harmonise and simplify them.
