Weighed down by weak cues from the global peers, the key domestic benchmark indices continued to crawl in red, during the late noon trading session as investors remained cautious on Chinese economic slowdown.
At 14:13 hours, the 30-share benchmark index, Sensex was trading at 27719.85 down by 211.79 points or by 0.76 per cent, while the NSE Nifty was at 8412.8 down by 82.35 points or by 0.97 per cent.
Sentiments of the traders remained dampened with a private report stating that India remains a 'long way off' from a complete turnaround in the corporate investment cycle despite various positive economic indicators.
In the choppy trade so-far, Sensex touched an intraday high of 27964.6 and an intraday low of 27667.78, while the NSE Nifty touched an intraday high of 8501.35 and an intraday low of 8396.
Meanwhile, sentiments of investors also got a hit after the Fed released the minutes of its latest policy meeting stating that the conditions for a rate hike are approaching.
Major show spoilers on the D-street included Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 98.95,-3.56%), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 242.65,-2.90%), Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (Rs. 254.60,-2.82%), Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1142.00,-2.81%), Tata Motors Ltd. (Rs. 342.20,-2.53%), among others.
However, some buying interest was witnessed in stocks including Lupin Ltd. (Rs. 1901.25,+5.90%), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 329.95,+4.20%), Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (Rs. 952.35,+2.71%), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 4308.00,+1.80%), Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (Rs. 885.00,+1.06%), among others.
Among the sectors, Realty index saw profit booking and was trading at 1338.72 down by -53.33 points or by -3.83%. Indiabulls Real Estate Ltd. (Rs. 56.00,-8.72%), DLF Ltd. (Rs. 119.60,-5.60%), Ashiana Housing Ltd. (Rs. 164.20,-5.58%), Housing Development & Infrastructure Ltd. (Rs. 73.85,-4.77%), Godrej Industries Ltd. (Rs. 329.40,-4.31%),.
On the flip side, some support came in from FMCG index which was on buyer"s radar, trading at 8036.55 up by 140.49 points or by 1.78%. ITC Ltd. (Rs. 329.95,+4.20%), Rasoya Proteins Ltd. (Rs. 0.27,+3.85%), Kwality Ltd. (Rs. 96.00,+3.28%), Godrej Consumer Products Ltd. (Rs. 1310.70,+2.78%), G M Breweries Ltd. (Rs. 403.00,+2.08%),.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was weak. On BSE out of total 2744 shares traded, 700 shares advanced, 1944 shares declined and 100 were unchanged.
On the global front, the Asian equities ended the day in red as investors remained nervous over China as the country"s slowdown continued to fuel a rout in emerging market assets and commodities, dimming the lure for risky assets. Meanwhile, European counters were also trading in red with CAC, DAX and FTSE all trading with a cut of around half a per cent.
