Railways strengthens its presence on social media to connect with passengers

Indian Railways reaches out to its passengers and customers on Social Media in a big way. Indian Railways is now one of the leading handles on twitter and one of the most popular pages on Facebook.

Indian Railways, popularly known as RailMinIndia, in Social Media has acquired a following of 4.51 Lakh followers on its twitter handle and more than 3.8 Lakh on its Facebook page.

In an unprecedented move directed and led by the Minister of Railways, Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu, all DRMs and General Managers of the Zones have created their own official handles in order to interact closely with the passengers and offer real time solutions. This move has been widely appreciated by the stakeholders as this type of governance and transparency has never been seen before in any Government department.


The Railway Minister has always been emphasizing on maintaining on best possible connect with the public. He has time and again directed to collect people's feedback and address public grievances.

Both the social media platforms of Ministry of Railways are followed widely as they provide a combination of information pertinent to passengers, new policies, new innovations, new ideas, new developments in infrastructure and rolling stock, new thoughts as well as vignettes of the past.

The Social Media platforms of the Ministry of Railways have been created and designed to engender participation by the public at large. Surveys are conducted; new ideas and suggestions are sought regarding various issues affecting the travellers and other users. The strongest feature of the twitter handle, RailMinIndia, is its responsiveness to the grievances and suggestions offered by its followers.
