The Indian benchmark indices were trading in green in the morning session of day"s trade as a result of a rise in metal stocks led by NIIT Technologies followed by Vedanta, Tata Steel, NMDC and Hindustan Zinc.
According to media reports, Infosys chief operating officer (COO) Pravin Rao and newly appointed finance chief MD Ranganath said on a conference call with investors that the company was still facing challenges in key verticals such as energy and telecom.
The company expects the margins to take a hit and shrink in the second half from the first.
At 10:38AM BSE SENSEX was at 25883.42, up by 123.32 points or by 0.48 per cent while the NSE Nifty was at 7834.75, up by 28.15 points or by 0.36 per cent.
The BSE MIDCAP was at 10738.17, up by 60.86 points or by 0.57 per cent. while the BSE SMLCAP was at 11256.98, up by 75.54 points or by 0.68 per cent.
The top gainers of the BSE Sensex pack were Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 81.75,+3.35 per cent), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 92.25,+2.90 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 235.35,+2.42 per cent), ITC Ltd. (Rs. 345.80,+2.22 per cent), GAIL (India) Ltd. (Rs. 299.65,+1.70 per cent), among others.
The top losers of the BSE Sensex pack were Infosys Ltd. (Rs. 1062.80,-1.61 per cent), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd. (Rs. 3446.35,-1.55 per cent), Bharti Airtel Ltd. (Rs. 332.65,-0.97 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd. (Rs. 2596.45,-0.57 per cent), Axis Bank Ltd. (Rs. 479.35,-0.47 per cent), among others.
The Market breadth, indicating the overall strength of the market, was strong. On BSE, out of total 2203 shares traded, 1330 shares advanced, 749 shares declined while 124 were unchanged.
Among the sectoral indices on BSE, BSE Metal index was at 7191.14, up by 110.77 points or by 1.56 per cent led by Hindalco Industries Ltd. (Rs. 81.75,+3.35 per cent), Vedanta Ltd. (Rs. 92.25,+2.90 per cent), Tata Steel Ltd. (Rs. 235.35,+2.42 per cent), NMDC Ltd. (Rs. 93.10,+2.08 per cent), Hindustan Zinc Ltd. (Rs. 147.15,+2.08 per cent).
