No Telecom Company To Partner Chinese Firm: Reports

The Indian Government has said that no telecom operator has entered into partnership with Chinese companies in the communications sector although some foreign firms, including Chinese, have supplied mobile and broadband equipment to them.

As per reports, Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that foreign firms, including Chinese, supply mobile handsets and set top boxes.

Commenting on the issue, telecom Minister told the media, "However, as per information available with Department of Telecommunications, none of telecom service providers (TSPs) have entered into partnership with Chinese companies in the communication sector."

"Huawei Telecommunications (India) has been given security clearance by Ministry of Home Affairs to set up a unit for electronics/telecom hardware and support services at Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu," he added.

The minister further said that government was aware that in modern age, the telecom equipment and networks used for provisioning of telecom services were prone to spyware/malwares etc, if attempted by the antisocial and anti national elements.
