E-way Bill Under GST Mandatory From February 1, 2018

For generating the e-way bill, consignment has to be first registered online. Transporter and supplier have to furnish all the requisite details on the GSTN portal and a unique EBN.

The GST Council meet today decided to make e-way bill mandatory from February 1, 2018. The Council with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley at its helm met today through video conferencing to advance the decision regarding e-way bill under GST. Earlier it was proposed to make the e-way bill compulsory from next financial year.

With this ruling in place, the consignment of goods valued over Rs. 50000 will be delivered at a fast pace. Under the new indirect tax regime, delivery of goods valued over Rs. 50000 within or outside a state requires obtaining an e-way or electronic-way bill.

In a statement, finance ministry said, "The rules for implementation of nationwide e-way bill system for inter-state movement of goods on a compulsory basis will be notified with effect from February 1, 2018. This will bring uniformity across states for seamless inter-state movement of goods,"
