Ola, Uber Driver-Partners On Strike: Know Its Impact In Your City

Earlier the driver-partners of the two cab hailing companies, Ola and Uber had threatened to go on an indefinite strike from midnight of March 18 due to lower wage concerns. And now as per the PTI report, the strike is underway.

Almost 60,000 cabs have been reported to be off the roads today. Commuters are unable to make the bookings on both the platform in the city. However few Uber rides are still available.

"Neither micro nor mini cabs are available on Ola," PTI reports Mumbai resident as saying. The resident further added, "shared cabs seem to be operational, but that is also taking too long to arrive".

While the two cities are reported to be largely immune to the strike. Still some passengers are finding it difficult to book the cab. The multinational employee of Bengaluru as quoted in the PTI report says, "I tried booking an Ola, and although the app displayed that cabs are available, I couldn't make a booking," He further added, "I did not experience any hiccups on Uber, however".

The transport dept. of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena- Maharashtra Navnirman Vahatuk Sena has convened the strike citing that big assurances by both the cab-hailing companies are not being met.

As per the organization's spokesperson, cab aggregators are giving priority or first-preference to company-owned cars instead of driver-run vehicles.

And they demand mainly an assured business to the tunes of Rs. 1.25 lakh on a monthly basis as was promised by the two companies earlier.

The driver union claim that companies made "big assurances to drivers, but are unable to cover their costs".

At previous instances, the driver-partners of the two companies demanded of putting a stop to lowfare bookings, setting fares based on vehicle costs and even reinstating blacklisted drivers who have been given low ratings by passengers.

In the past also, the driver unions of the taxi-aggregators had gone on strike often in metros but it resulted in limited impact on the businesses of the two companies with major brunt borne by the commuters.
