Cabbies, Auto Drivers No Longer Need Commercial Driving License

The pre-requisite to driving a transport vehicle i.e commercial driving license has now been waived off to benefit taxi, auto and other cabbies. The securing of a commercial driving license usually took a year's time after the concerned received his or her personal driving license.

The diktat now holds true for other employed staff such as two-wheelers who are in the profession of delivering goods and other food articles or e-rickshaw drivers. Nonetheless, the commercial driving license will still be a must for heavy vehicle drivers including bus and trucks.

The waiver will in turn, ensure increased employment opportunities to lakhs of drivers, said the ministry officials.

In an advisory notified by the road transport ministry, state governments have been asked to stick by the Supreme Court order of July 2017.

In line with the ruling, the ministry has asked the state govt. to do away with the process of issuing badges for those driving commercial vehicles.

With the announcement while there is a relief around removal of corruption around issuance of commercial driving license. There is a fear and threat of congestion on roads.
