E-commerce giant, Amazon said that it will be setting up five more warehouses across various cities in the country. It plans to set up warehouses in Bengaluru, Gurgaon and Mumbai, Vijayawada and Kolkata. The move is to strengthen its delivery capabilities amid growing competition.
Amazon will have 67 fulfillment centers (FC) across 13 states, with the addition of these new facilities and a total storage capacity of more than 20 million cubic feet, the company said in a statement.
"These new FCs will be set up in Bangalore, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Vijayawada, and Kolkata to support increased customer and seller demand from these regions," it added.
The new FCs will be fully working prior to the 2018 festival season.
FCs are the warehouses where sellers can stock the inventory. Money can be saved by replacing upfront capital expenses with low variable cost and pay only for the storage space which they use to fulfill Amazon's orders.
"With the addition of this expanded infrastructure, we will be able to offer an even better Prime experience to our customers," Amazon India Vice President Customer Fulfillment Akhil Saxena said.
Amazon.in's network of FCs will enable tens of thousands of small and medium businesses to fulfill their orders in a cost-efficient manner, he added.
The statement also mentioned that Currently, over 40 million products are available for immediate shipping through the network of Amazon's FCs in India.
