UIDAI Denies Enrolment Software Breach Reports

The body said that the claims made in the report are baseless and false as its enrolment software is well protected with necessary features to check against any manipulations.

The statement by the aadhaar issuing body comes at a time when alleged tampering of the software has been reported through which aadhaar card issuance is facilitated without requiring any documents.

The UIDAI also emphasized about its zero tolerance policy and said that any instance of violation of stipulated practices and processes by any of the operator is dealt away strictly with immediate blacklisting as well as financial penalty of up to Rs 1 lakh per instance.

In a statement, the UIDAI said, "Also, all such enrolment attempts get rejected and Aadhaar is not generated. As on date more than 50,000 operators have been blacklisted".

About its safety check and biometric authentication, the Aadhaar issuing body further asserted that its system confirms and matches all of the biometrics including 10 fingers and 2 iris of the person enrolling for aadhaar with the available biometric record of Aadhaar holders.

Also, it said, that the operator's biometric and other details are checked before any enrollment or updation request is processed and only after it is done successfully, the authority goes ahead with the request.

In a statement UIDAI said, "No operator can make or update Aadhaar unless the resident himself or herself gives his or her biometric. Any enrolment or update request is processed only after biometric of resident is authenticated".

UIDAI also added, "Some of the checks include biometric check of operator, validity of operator, enrolment machine, enrolment agency and registrar, which are verified at UIDAI's backend system before further processing is done. In cases where any of the checks fails, the enrolment request gets rejected and action against such operator is taken".
