Bank Unions To Go On Two Day Strike From May 30
All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) leader on Friday announced that more than 10 lakh bank employees both from the private and government banks will go on a 2-day strike from May 30. For early revision of wages, the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) has proposed the strike from 6 a.m. on May 30 to 6 am on June 1. The wage revision for bank employees is due since November 1, 2017.
C.H. Venkatachalam, General Secretary, AIBEA said, "the strike notice has been served to Indian Banks Association (IBA) representing the bank management and the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central), New Delhi".
The UFBU is an umbrella body of 9 unions from the banking sector and is representative of bank officers and staff.
Wage revision talks between IBA and UFBU on May 5 held in Mumbai failed as the former offered a meagre wage revision which has been totally rejected by the UFBU. The IBA proposed a 2% increase over the total wage bill of the banks as on March 31, 2017.
Venkatachalam added, while the government had asked the IBA to conclude the wage revision settlement before November 1, 2017, the latter has been delaying.
