Petrol & Diesel Costliest Ever As Oil Marketers Pass On Burden to Consumers
Petrol and diesel prices per litre hit their all-time highs as state-owned oil marketing companies pass on their burden of the relentless rise in international crude oil cost in the last four weeks. Petrol price in metro cities was up by 33 paise per litre on an average at Rs 76.57 in Delhi, Rs 79.24 in Kolkata, Rs 84.4 in Mumbai and Rs 79.47 in Chennai.
Diesel was up by 26 paise per litre on an average at Rs 67.82 in Delhi, Rs 70.37 in Kolkata, Rs 72.21 in Mumbai and Rs 71.59 in Chennai.
Petrol crossed its previous all-time high of Rs 76.06 (14 September 2014) yesterday when it was priced at Rs 76.24 after a 33 paise rise.
After the pre-poll 19-day pause in the increment in fuel prices for Karnataka elections, fuel prices have been hiked by close to Rs 2 in the last seven days.

Prices in various states vary because of the incidence in taxes. Petrol is the most expensive in Mumbai at Rs 84.4, followed by Bhopal and Patna at Rs 82.17 and Rs 82.05. Other than these three cities, petrol prices have crossed the Rs 80 mark in Hyderabad, Jalandhar, Srinagar and Trivandrum.
