World's Cheapest Airlines 2018 List Includes Indian Names
A recent report released by a Melbourne based travel website Rome2rio analyzed the airfares during January and February 2018 of economy airlines across the globe. The result showed two Indian airlines that had made it to the top 5.
The website said, "Our data science team analysed economy-class airfares over a two month period, totalling some 1.5 million price points, to provide a snapshot of global pricing (in US$ per km) across international and domestic carriers."
In a comparison of 200 airlines around the world, India's Air Indian Express, a subsidiary of Air India, made it as the second cheapest airline in the world while IndiGo was listed as fifth cheapest.
Its report called the '2018 Global Flight Price Ranking' named the following 15 as the cheapest:
- Air Asia X

- IndiGo Airlines
- Etihad
- Ryanair
- Qantas
- WOW Air

The report also said that Ryanair could be one of the best value-airlines to travel within Europe. Virgin Atlantic too had seen a notable reduction in its prices after its revision to new economy prices.
In terms of regions, it said that British carriers were one of the most expensive ones, for example, British Airways ranked 139th among 200. On the other hand, Asian and middle eastern airlines gave the best value in terms of international flights.
