E-Verification of ITR Through Aadhar OTP Temporarily Down

Technical issues have caused unavailability of Aadhar OTP e-verification facility on filing income tax returns (ITR). In a notification on its official website www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in, the income tax department said, "Temporarily due to technical issues, Aadhaar OTP for e-verification is unavailable. This will be enabled shortly."

E-Verification of ITR Through Aadhar OTP Temporarily Down

As an income taxpayer, you should be aware that filing your income tax returns is not enough, you have to verify it too. Only after verification, your returns will be processed. You can do it offline as well as online with Aadhar OTP facility being the simplest of those facilities which you can avail if your PAN is linked to your Aadhar.

The verification can, however, be done up to 120 days from the filing of your ITR. The last date to file your ITR for the financial year 2017-18 is 31 July 2018. After the filing, you can either wait for the Aadhar OTP e-verification facility to resort or use other e-verification options.

How to verify income tax returns offline?

For doing it offline, you need to download the ITR-V (acknowledgment form) from the "view returns/forms" section of the e-filing website. The password for this form will be a combination of your PAN (in small) and your date of birth (without hyphen or slash). Print and sign this form and send it to:
Centralized Processing Centre (CPC),
Post Box No.1,
Electronic City Post Office,
Bangalore-560500

You will receive an e-mail from the income tax department acknowledging the receipt of the form. You have to make sure it reaches the CPC within 120 days of filing your income tax returns.
