From next month that also starts as a new year, even if the train ticket is cancelled after the start of train from its source station, waitlisted passengers travelling via Indian railways will be given a confirmed seat at the next stations. And this shall be done via direct intimation to TTE on the train. This is done to improve services and amenities for railway passengers.
Further, on a trial basis, the practise has been implemented on several Rajdhani and Shatabdi Express and now on it shall be tested in other trains as well.
Essentially, the hand-held device with the TTE that has a direct connection with the railways server will facilitate such a move and any updation on the ticket will enable the TTE to allot confirmed railway seat or berth to the railway passenger.
In regard to granting of confirmed seats, TTEs in most of the trains wait for passenger until the next stations and therafter allot the seat to a waitlisted passenger.
Also, with such a step, refund process of cancelled tickets will be hastened as against the earlier process when it was initiated only after the report to this regard was put on display by the TTE.
