Businessman Vijay Mallya, who is undergoing an extradition trial in the UK over his money laundering and fraud charges from the Indian authorities appealed to the banks to accept 100 percent of the principal loan amount. "I am offering to pay 100% back. I humbly request the Banks and Government to take it," he said in a series of tweets today.

Incidentally, the tweets come hours after the alleged Augustwestland VVIP chopper deal middleman-Christian Michel was extradited to India from Dubai. This has been India's first successful extradition. The authorities have initiated similar proceedings against other infamous economic offenders like Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya.

Mallya, however, denied that his decision was linked to his own extradition process. "I see the quick media narrative about my extradition decision. That is separate and will take its own legal course. The most important point is public money and I am offering to pay 100% back. I humbly request the Banks and Government to take it. If payback refused, WHY ?," he tweeted.

In another tweet, he said, "For three decades running India's largest alcoholic beverage group, we contributed thousands of crores to the State exchequers. Kingfisher Airlines also contributed handsomely to the States. Sad loss of the finest Airline but still I offer to pay Banks so no loss. Please take it."
