WPI Inflation Cools To 3-Month Low Of 4.64%


The wholesale price based inflation has softened a bit to 3-month low of 4.64% for the month of November owing to lowering of prices primarily in food articles that include vegetables. In the previous month, WPI inflation came in at 5.28% while in the same month last year, it stood at 4.02%.

Food articles also showed a deflation in price of 3.31% in comparison to just 1.49% in the last month. Vegetables also softened in prices from deflation at 26.98% in comparison to just 18.65% decrease in prices in October.

Fuel and power inflation stood higher at 16.28% but was indeed lower in comparison to 18.44 inflation recorded for the previous month. All, products in the category witnessed a substantial decrease in price including LPG, petrol and diesel.

Among food items, potato increase in price by 86.45% while onion recorded a deflation of 47.60% and the same has been in the case of pulses at 5.42%.

In the month of August, WPI inflation stood lower at 4.62%.

CPI or retail inflation for the month stood at 2.33 per cent for November. Primarily, while deciding monetary policy outcome, the RBI takes into account consumer price index based inflation.
