At present Singh holds the position of Executive Director (Flight Safety) at Air India. And now she will be replaced by Captain Nivedita Bhasin, Air India's senior most commanders flying Boeing 787 Dreamliner currently.

On Friday, the air-carrier's CMD Rajiv Bansal issued an order saying Singh "will hold the charge of Alliance Air CEO post till further orders." At the same time, Capt. Nivedita Bhasin considering her experience over the year has also been directed to lead various departments.

Alliance Air will exist as a public sector undertaking for now and is not put on sale with the Air India-AI Express-AISATS combine. In fact old Boeing 747s of Air India will be transferred to Alliance Air, which in its fleet includes turboprops.

Harpreet Singh was the first woman pilot chosen by Air India in the year 1988. She could not fly on account of health issues but remained very active in the field of flight safety. She also led the charge of the Indian Women Pilot Association.
