Both of the suspects, who were both from Sirsa, Haryana, had moved to Nepal in order to avoid being caught and continue the fraud. They were apprehended after receiving a tip and discovered to be in possession of several incriminating documents and devices, including multiple computers, multiple cell phones, debit cards, PAN and Aadhar information for multiple people, multiple notary stamps, and so on.

This arrest is related to the case in which the DGGI, GZU had previously arrested Shri Kabir Kumar, who was apprehended at the airport while fleeing the city and was charged with Rs 527 crore in ITC fraud. Hundreds of fake firms have been generated on the basis of PAN and Aadhar cards of unknown persons whose data was obtained by a separate syndicate, based on evidence and statements reported.
The fake invoices totaling Rs 4,814 crore were discovered to have been produced by the fake firms. As a result, the suspects were arrested on March 8, 2021, and brought before the Duty MM, where they were remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
