On Thursday, National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) said users can use the BHIM UPI platform for recharging FASTags which have been mandated for automated toll payments on National highways from January 15, 2020 now instead of December 15, 2019 earlier.
In a release, the company said any BHIM UPI powered mobile app would enable vehicle owners to recharge their FASTags on the go and prevent long queues at toll booths of National Highways. "Customers can now recharge their FASTag account hassle free through BHIM UPI enabled mobile applications just by logging into the BHIM app," NPCI said.
To meet the electronic tolling requirements of the Indian market, NETC or the National Electronic Toll Collection programme has been designed. This programme provides an interoperable toll payment solution across the length and breadth of the country with facility of clearing house services for both settlement and dispute management.
"Consumer experience with NETC FASTag is our primary focus. We believe that this facility would give them a smooth, secure and transparent toll payments experience just by using any of the UPI enabled mobile applications," Praveena Rai, Chief Operating Officer, NPCI said.
