Hero MotoCorp set to rally; ties up with US's EBR to source technology

Hero MotoCorp seems to be leaving no corner untouched in containing its leadership in the two-wheeler segment even after its break-up with Japan's Honda. The company has now tied up with US-based Erik Buell Racing (EBR) to outsource technology to be used for its high-end bikes, said media reports.

The report also quoted Hero MotoCorp's CEO and MD, Pawan Munjal as saying that Erik Buell Racing is a leader in high end and high performance racing bikes, where they lag in the Indian context.

Through this tie-up, the company plans to compete its nearest rival Bajaj Auto while also marking its presence in global markets where companies like Yamaha, Honda, Suzuki have established brands. However, Munjal completely looked relaxed and stretched saying that "We would move up gradually". He said that company will not straightaway launch a 1,000 cc or 1,200 cc bike with EBR's technology.

The idea of losing Honda's expertise in the auto sector has thrilled Hero MotoCorp so much that the company has planned to have multiple technology source for different segments and enhance its own R&D capability.
