Salaried Individuals: Simple Steps To File Income Tax Return Online For 2016

Step 1: Register Yourself

To file your returns online, one has to register at Income tax site using PAN details, name and date of birth. Note that PAN will be user ID to login next time.

Step 2: Online and Offline method

There are two ways you can upload your tax return. One by directly entering the details in the form. Other is first you can download and fill the form and upload.

Step 3: Right Form

Make sure you have filled the correct form. Some times tax department makes some changes in the form for taxpayer benefit.

If you have income of more than Rs 50 lakh, you will have to fill an additional column -"AL" or assets and liabilities. Where you will have to disclose the amount of your assets and liabilities.

Step 4: Keep documents handy

Form 16, other income details, all Bank account numbers, IFSC codes, personal details.

Step 5: Upload the form

If you have download the form, after filling it click on generate XML. Visit income tax site and click upload XML button.

Step 6: E verifying returns

Once you submit your form, you will receive an acknowledgment number.

There are various ways through which you can e-verify your income tax returns.

Note that filing tax return process is not complete until you e-verify your returns or send your acknowledgment copy to CPC Bangalore.
