Banijay Asia's The 50 has become the most-watched show on OTT platforms, attracting 6.5 million views on JioHotstar, according to the latest report by Ormax Media. The milestone is particularly significant given the intense competition from major sporting events such as the ICC Cricket World Cup, Women's International Cricket, and premium scripted titles such as Dhurandhar.

The Indian adaptation of the globally successful format Les Cinquante brings together 50 popular personalities from television, reality shows, and the digital creator space, ensuring a perfect mix of drama, rivalry and strong fan participation. Set in a specially designed palace-style environment, the show focuses on strategy, alliances, and survival rather than traditional audience voting. This shift in format makes The 50 one of the most ambitious and large-scale reality productions created in India.
A key highlight of the show is its fan-first prize concept. Instead of the winning contestant taking home the cash reward, the prize is awarded to one of their registered followers through the platform. This innovative structure transforms viewers from just passive spectators into active participants, strengthening audience engagement and emotional investment in the outcome.
Speaking about the key milestone, Deepak Dhar, Founder & Group CEO, Banijay Asia & EndemolShine India, said, "The success of The 50 only reaffirms that Indian audiences are ready for bold, innovative and truly global formats when they are thoughtfully localised. To emerge as the most-watched OTT show amid marquee sporting events and premium scripted titles is a testament to the strength of the format, the scale of production and the power of audience engagement built into the show. At Banijay Asia, we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of unscripted entertainment-creating formats that are not only culturally resonant, but also redefine how audiences participate in and experience reality content."
The Format
The 50 premiered on February 1 on Colors TV, with simultaneous streaming on JioHotstar. The show unfolds inside a sprawling, castle-like "mahal" set located in Mumbai's Madh Island.
Unlike conventional reality shows, the competition does not follow predictable elimination patterns or fixed gameplay rules. Instead, it operates as a high-stakes survival contest marked by constant twists, shifting power dynamics, and strategic challenges.
Hosted by Farah Khan, the show has received a strong response from Indian audiences. Its performance demonstrates how global formats can successfully connect with local viewers through culturally relevant casting, storytelling, and high production values.
The success of The 50 also underlines Banijay Asia's growing strength in the unscripted content space. Over the past year, the company has delivered several top-performing non-fiction titles across platforms, further cementing its position in India's premium reality and factual entertainment segment.
