In Asia most of the markets were higher, led by the Hong Kong's Hang Sang and the Japanese Nikkei. The Sensex was trading with gains of 88 points, while the Nifty was up 23 points in trade.

Shares in Larsen and Toubro surged 2 per cent, after the company reported a good set of quarterly numbers. Wockhardt continued to face worries over US FDA issues. The stock was down 3 per cent, after the company got a warning for its UK subsidiary CP Pharma. Among the top losers from the Nifty were Zee, NTPC and Adani Ports.

Stocks that gained from the Nifty were Hindalco and Adani Ports.

Meanwhile, the rupee continued to see some marginal gains with the currency trading at 68.44 to the US dollar. It is unlikely that the currency will see too much of fluctuations in the days to come.
