Benchmark indices opened the day higher as global cues continued to remain strong.
Benchmark indices opened the day higher with the Sensex surging past the 26,000 points mark, as the US Dow Jones hit a new record high in trade. The Dow Jones crossed the 19,000 points mark for the first time ever, while the S&P 500 too rallied to a new record high.

Shares in Larsen and Toubro surged 2 per cent, after the company reported a good set of quarterly numbers. Wockhardt continued to face worries over US FDA issues. The stock was down 3 per cent, after the company got a warning for its UK subsidiary CP Pharma. Among the top losers from the Nifty were Zee, NTPC and Adani Ports.
Stocks that gained from the Nifty were Hindalco and Adani Ports.
Meanwhile, the rupee continued to see some marginal gains with the currency trading at 68.44 to the US dollar. It is unlikely that the currency will see too much of fluctuations in the days to come.
