Alexander Shnaider: Career Highlights

Shnaider co-founded Midland Group in 1994, initially a steel trader. He operated in Ukraine before government-owned steel factories were privatized, acting as a sales agent and factor for state-owned companies. In 1999, Midland Resources began buying shares in the Zaporizhstal steel mill, and by 2001, Shnaider's consortium had bought 93% of the mill for $70 million. In 2010, he sold at least half of Midland's ownership in Zaporizhstal to buyers financed by Russian state-owned Vnesheconombank.

In 2005, Shnaider bought Jordan Grand Prix from Eddie Jordan and renamed it Midland F1 Racing. He sold the team to Spyker Cars in 2006. In 2007, he bought the Israeli soccer team Maccabi Tel Aviv for an estimated 12 million euros and sold the club to Canadian property developer Mitchell Goldhar in 2009.

Shnaider also ventured into real estate. He partnered with Donald Trump in the construction of Trump International Hotel and Tower in Toronto, with Russian Canadian gaming entrepreneur Val Levitan as the main co-investor. Trump was a minority shareholder with a property management contract (bought out in 2017). Shnaider invested in a property consortium that bought Toronto's King Edward Hotel for $50 million in 2010. He formed Delton Retail Fund, a property group, with N3 Real Estate in 2011 and invested NIS₪39 million in Mishorim Development Ltd. in 2015, increasing his holdings to 42% in 2016.
