About Auto LPG

The term Auto Gas or Auto LPG is the common name for Liquefied Petroleum Gas when it is used as a fuel in internal combustion engines in vehicles as well as in the stationary applications such as generations. Auto Gas is a mixture of butane and propane. This alternative fuel is widely known as a green fuel and it emits less carbon-di-oxide when compared to other fuels including diesel and fixed.

The Auto LPG has an octane rating ranging between 90 -110 and the energy content from burning the fuel is between 25.5 megajoules per litre (in case of pure propane) and 28.7 megajoules per litre (in case of pure butane) and it depends upon the actual fuel composition.

Auto Gas is referred to as gas in most of the countries. In the United States of America, it is known as propane, whereas in the UK, it is either referred to as autogas or LPG. This fuel can be used to run an auto, cars, buses, vans and so on. Many automobile manufacturers are making LPG only engines and the moment is picking up gradually. Top brands including Volvo, Skoda, Maruti Suzuki, Holden, Daewoo, Opel, Saab, Peugeot, Tata Motors, Renault, Toyota and most recently Volkswagen have started to manufacture engines that are run by both petrol and LPG.
