Log onto the website of the concerned bank and you can see all the information that is available. For example, to download the NRE or NRO form from the SBI website you can click on the following link

    Step 2: Filling the form

Fill the form carefully and read all the instructions

Step 3: Keep the following documents ready

    a) Photocopy of residence visa

    b) ID Card or residence card of the country of residence

    c) Photocopies of passport

    d) 2 passport size photographs

    e) Attestation might be needed by the Indian embassy

    f) Latest copy of your bank statement abroad

    g) Proof of address abroad

Step 3: Draft issued from abroad

Make a draft from abroad in the name of the account holder. You can do so by visiting the several exchange companies which help to make a draft.

Step 4: Post the same to the address provided on the website or on the form

You may receive a mail from the bank as soon as the documents have been received. They would update you on the online password, ATM card and other details that would be dispatched. You can also give a local address and you can make it your correspondence address.

If you visit one of the branches in your country of residence than your hassles are far fewer. When posting your documents you have to make sure all the documents are in order, because you have already made a draft.
