Every year, in our country many LPG cylinder related accidents are reported. Oil marketing companies and distributors are paying crores of rupees as insurance premiums. But people are not aware of this. All registered gas consumers are insured against the risk of accidents from LPG cylinders at their registered addresses. Accidents involve gas cylinders cover up to Rs 40-50 lakh.
The LPG insurance cover is for all family members. In the case of death, the kin has to appeal to the court for compensation. The court decides the amount according to the victim's age, income, and other factors.
How to claim the LPG insurance in case of an accident? Procedure to be followed by the LPG customers in case of an accident
1. Whom to contact?
The accident has to be reported at the nearest police station immediately. If any accidents happen, the LPG customer should immediately inform the distributor in writing. The distributor then informs the concerned oil company and the insurance company about the accident. Customers are not needed to contact the insurance company directly, or required to apply to the insurance company.
2. Documents needed
Customers need to submit some documents for claiming the insurance. Customers are required to submit to the oil company the following documents:
- The originals of death certificate(s)
- Post-Mortem report(s) /Coroners report/Inquest report, as applicable, in the case of deaths.
3. Injuries
In case of injuries, customers are required to submit,
- Original medical bills
- Doctors' prescriptions in original
- Purchase of the medicine bills
- Discharge Card in original
- Documents related to the hospitalisation
4. Property damages
It is common that damages to property including house or building and vehicles happen due to the LPG accidents.In such cases, you can claim for these damages. In the case of property damage at customers' registered premises, the insurance company appoints their surveyor to assess the loss. The local distributor of your Gas company has to assist you in completing the formalities of an insurance claim.
5. Use ISI-marked accessories
It is important to have an eye on the accessories you use. To avoid claim rejection, you should use ISI-mark accessories. Accessories include items such as lighter and gas pipes. It is important to ask your gas dealer to carry out maintenance checks at regular intervals of times.
