UMANG: What Is This Master App For Govt Services?

The government is planning to implement, a new App for all government services called UMANG.

UMANG will integrate hundreds of services offered by central state and local authorities under one roof. If you want to apply for a passport or want to file income-tax returns or to access any government services you don't need to visit various government offices and departments.

However, the timeframe to roll out the UMANG has not been finalized. The UMANG will be hailed as a master app.

The government is pushing for a master app which will have all the government services integrated. The UMANG stands for Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance. The project is being developed by the union ministry of communications and information technology's national e-governance Division (NeGD).

Services offered

Some of the services which will be available under UMANG will be,

• Passport Seva
• Women Safety (Nirbhaya)
• E-Post
• Crime and criminal tracking
• Network and systems
• Commercial tax/GST
• Income tax
• CBSE/State Education Boards
• E-Municipality
• IRCTC
• Utility bills
• m-Kisan
• PF/NPS

The app will integrate almost 200 government services including the above mentioned.

 

Accessability of UMANG?

The app will be available for all citizen who know how to use a smartphone and the internet. Govt may make these services available on SMS, and a single toll-free number for those not having a smartphone say reports. Working of UMANG

All citizens would be able to access the government cloud services using UMANG. The services include PayGov and DigiLocker etc. DigiLocker will let the citizens store their documents in the secure government cloud. It will maintain personal details of citizens so that the user won't need to enter it again every time.
