Aadhaar Number is a 12-digit, identification number which is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), to the residents of the country after fulfilling the verification process laid down by the authority. Any individual, irrespective of age, gender, demography may obtain an Aadhaar card after performing the enrollment process free of cost.

The Aadhaar Card contains the following prominent information about an individual:

Features of Aadhaar
- Uniqueness - It is achieved through the demographic and biometric de-duplication process. The de-duplication process compares the resident's demographic and biometric information, collected at the time of enrollment process.
- Random Number - Aadhaar number is a random number devoid of any intelligence. Any individual who wishes to enroll in the process has to provide minimal demographic along with the biometric information.
- Portability - The Aadhaar gives nationwide portability as it can be used for authentication purpose.
- Open Source Technologies - Open source technologies include specific computer hardware, specific storage, specific OS, specific database vendor, or any particular vendor technologies to scale.
- Scalable Technology Architecture - The UID architecture is open and scalable. The data is stored centrally, and authentication can be done online from anywhere in the country.

Steps to link Aadhaar with Savings Bank Account
- Visit the branch where one has their respective Savings Bank account, with a copy of Aadhaar number or e-Aadhaar if one does not have the hard copy of Aadhaar card.
- Submit a "Letter of Request" attached with a photocopy of Aadhaar.
- Bank will verify all the documents.
- On successful completion of the procedure, an SMS will be sent to the registered mobile number of the customers.
