Learn how to use the UMANG app to check your EPF balance in this step by step guide.
The government of India launched the UMANG App in November 2017 as a one-stop application for all government services. UMANG is short for Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance and is expected to have over 1,200 services of the various state as well as central government. It even allows utility payments like paying your electricity bill and you could also apply for a PAN card with it.
The best and most tending feature is the ability to access your Employees Provident Fund (EPF) Passbook on your smartphone. It provides a detailed list of all the deposits made towards your EPF during your employment at different companies.
How to download the UMANG App?
Generally your phone number will be registered with the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) once you start making PF contributions through your salary. This is done by your employer. If not, contact your firm's HR Department to get it done for you.
Make sure your registered number is active as you will be receiving the One Time Password (OTP) on that number.
Step 1
Choose the EPFO option when you open the app.
Step 2
Choose 'Employee Centric Services' from the options.
Step 3
Select the "View Passbook" option and you should see a pop-up asking for your UAN. Enter your UAN number there.
Your UAN or Universal Account Number is allotted by the EPFO to every employee that contributes to PF. This number will remain the same even if you change your employer, it is just the PF number that will change.
Easiest ways to find your UAN is:
- Search your text messages for the word "UAN" as the EPFO sends a text message to your registered number every time it receives a contribution towards your PF.
- Find it printed in your payslip.
Step 4
Enter the OTP that you will receive immediately as a text message on your registered phone number.
Step 5
Now you will see that your view passbook option is unlocked. It will get locked again after sometime of inactivity on the app.
Step 6
You will now be able to see the complete list of all your PF accounts created during your employment with various employers. You can open each of the links that are mentioned employee wise to see complete details of the deposit made towards PF.
