    The pension is a type of retirement plan that provides regular monthly income for the individual after retirement. Not all the employees have an opportunity to enjoy pension. Government organizations give pension to its employees after their retirement. The age of retirement is fixed at 60 years in India.

    It has been observed that it causes a lot of difficulty and unnecessary inconvenience for the aged and infirm pensioners who are not in a position to present themselves in front of the particular authority to secure life certificates. In addition to this lot of government employees choose to relocate to different places post-retirement with their family, it causes a lot of difficulty for these aged agrarians for accessing their pension amount.

    There are more than one crore families in India which can be classified as pensioner families which includes retired employees from central government, state government, union territory, various other government agencies, public sector enterprises, army, and defense personnel. These families depend on the pension disbursed by the government agencies for monthly income.

    Digital Life Certificate

    To ease the problem faced by the retired people in the country, the Government of India has introduced a scheme known as Jeevan Pramaan, a Digital Life Certificate for pensioners in India. It seeks to reduce the problems faced by the seniors. It aims to streamline the process of securing life certificate.

    What is Jeevan Pramaan?

    Jeevan Pramaan is a biometric-enabled digital service mainly for pensioners in India. It is an initiative by the Government of India to help the pensioners to secure the life certificate by digitizing the whole process.

    Who benefits from this scheme?

    All the central government, State Government or any other government organization retired employees can take benefit of this scheme.

    Uses of the Scheme

    With this scheme, the pensioner's requirement to physically present himself/ herself in front of the disbursing agency or the certification authority is not required, and it will hugely benefit pensioners by cutting down on unnecessary logistic hurdles.

    How does it work?

    • Jeevan Pramaan is a biometric enabled digital service. 
    • It uses Aadhaar platform for biometric authentication of the pensioner. 
    • A successful authentication generates Digital Life  Certificate which gets stored in Life Certificate Repository.
    • The Pension Disbursing Agencies can access the certificate online.

    Steps for securing Jeevan Pramaan Certificate

    Enrolling for Jeevan Pramaan

    One can enroll in the scheme by downloading the application on the personal computer, or mobile phone or one can even visit the nearest Jeevan Pramaan Centre for registration. A pensioner has to provide necessary details like Aadhaar number, pension payment order, bank account, bank name, mobile number.

    Aadhaar Authentication

    For Aadhaar authentication, the pensioner has to provide biometrics, either fingerprint or Iris and authenticate oneself.


    Life Certificate

    After successful authentication one will receive SMS acknowledgment to the registered mobile number, which includes Jeevan Pramaan Certificate ID. The certificates are stored in Life Certificate Repository which makes it possible to use them anytime, anywhere for the use of pensioner and the pension disbursing agency.

    Steps for securing Jeevan Pramaan Certificate

    Access Certificate

    One can download a PDF copy of the certificate from Jeevan Pramaan website by providing Aadhaar number of Jeevan Pramaan ID.

    Pension Disbursing Agency

    The Pension Disbursing Agency can access the Life Certificate from the Jeevan Pramaan website, and download the same.

    Electronic Delivery

    The Life Certificates can also be electronically delivered to the Pension Disbursing Agency, without any manual intervention.
