The players in the telecom industry have seen a severe blow with the winding up of the operations by Reliance Communication to be now followed by Aircel. The company has now filed for bankruptcy with the National Company Law Tribunal.
And in case you are an aircel customer, you have to port your number to any of the other available network providers anytime soon.
Current situation
The current status is that the telecom operator has shut down its operations in many of the states including Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh (West). And the customers, both pre-paid and post-paid are facing a whole lot of problems in porting out of the network. And on Wednesday, TRAI has given time to the troubled telecom provider to come out with Unique Port Code (UPC) for facilitating mobile number portability (MNP).
So, here is provided a guide to port your Aircel number to any other network provider in an hassle free manner:
1. Mobile number portability eligibility:
Now that you have decided to port your AIrcel number to other subscriber, you need to check with it about its terms and conditions. Fill the CAF and form for porting. For this you will also require the unique porting code (UPC) which is to be issued by the Aircel and that shall remain valid till April 15, 2018.
2. Get Unique Port code:
For this you need to send a text message saying PORT followed by the 10-digit aircel mobile number to 1900. For Jammu and Kashmir aircel users, UPC shall be provided by calling 1900.
UPC shall be processed in few hours and will be an 8-character long unique code with the first two characters as alphabets and the rest as numbers. Before that you will receive an SMS asking for the confirmation on porting out from the Aircel network.
3. Approach the new telecom provider and place the porting request:
Now the provided UPC number along with the completed CAF and porting form has to be submitted with the new service provider.
Along with it the new provider may ask for your ID documents and in case you had been a post-paid aircel user then past bill receipt needs to be furnished.
4. New number activation:
For resident in states from J&K, Assam and North-East, the procedure will take 15 days time while for users in other states, once the porting request is accepted by Aircel, the number with the new operator shall be activated on the seventh working day.
