Aadhaar-PAN Linking Deadline On 30 Sept; How To Check Status?

The last date to link your Aadhaar to PAN is 30 September 2019. Earlier this year, the Finance Ministry notified that those allotted with a PAN (Permanent Account Number) are required to link it with Aadhaar number (if they are eligible to get one). It was also informed that for those fail to do so, their PAN will become inoperative starting 1 October.

Note that in the Budget 2019, the government allowed the use of Aadhaar for lack of PAN, to file Income Tax Returns. Also, it was made mandatory to quote one's Aadhaar number while filing ITR.

For those who do not have a PAN and use Aadhaar for filing ITR, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) will be auto-issuing PAN.

How to link PAN with Aadhaar?

1. Visit Income Tax e-filing website.
2. Click on "Link Aadhaar" under "Quick Links" on the left-hand side of the website.
3. Enter Aadhaar, PAN, name details and Captcha code.
4. Click on "Link Aadhaar."
5. Enter the OTP that will be sent to your mobile number linked to Aadhaar.

How to check link status?

If you are not sure whether or not your PAN is linked to Aadhaar, you can attempt the steps mentioned above. If the two are already linked, it will show a message that will read, "Your PAN is already linked to Aadhaar number XXXX1111".
