In order to simplify the ease of low-ticket size transactions on debit, credit as well as pre-paid instruments including wallets, the RBI has asked issuers of these cards to provide e-mandate facility.

The facility is available in case of bank accounts in which the amount is auto debited for some of the previously specified e-mandates in respect of the billers approved by the bank customer.
The maximum limit for such a facility on cards is up to Rs. 2000 and no extra charges will be levied for giving the e-mandate. It is to be noted that customers can opt for such a facility only in case of recurring transactions and not in case of 'once-only' payment.
How to apply for e-mandate facility on debit, credit cards?
In case of debit, credit card, customer opting for it needs to undergo a one-time registration procedure. The process is to be validated by the issuer and it involves additional factor of authentication. It is to be noted that the first transaction via the e-mandate on these plastic cards will be validated by the issuer.
The RBI has said in case of such e-mandates specified on cards subsequent transactions will be carried out on only those cards for which the registration process was successful at first and has been verified and authorized successfully. Also, the central bank provided other transactions on a recurring basis can be undertaken even without AFA.
