The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has issued an important update for parents who want to apply for an Aadhaar Card for their newly born baby. Although it is a fact that to apply for a Baal Aadhaar Card parents need to submit their Aadhaar Card and infant's birth certificate if any. But now UIDAI has clarified that parents who are willing to apply for a Baal Aadhaar Card for their newly born baby can apply for a one with the child's discharge certificate rather than the birth certificate. The UIDAI made the announcement on its Twitter account, stating, "To enroll your child for #Aadhaar, you only need the child's birth certificate or the discharge slip from the hospital and the Aadhaar of one of the parents."

Biometrics must be updated whenever the child reaches the age of five years. Parents can apply for their newborn child's Aadhaar card both online and by visiting their nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra. In its recent tweet, UIDAI has also stated that "BaalAadhaar can only be used up to the age of 5 years. It becomes inactive if the biometrics of the child are not updated at the age of 5 years. You can visit your nearest #AadhaarEnrolment Centre."

The UIDAI has also informed that "In Aadhaar, fingerprints and iris scans are not captured while enrolling the children below 5 years of age, only a photograph is taken. Once the child attains the age of 5, biometrics need to be updated mandatorily."
