Last month ICICI Bank confirmed a partnership with Google Pay that will enable customers to purchase FASTag on the payment application via UPI. This will enable customers to electronically purchase, monitor and recharge ICICI Bank FASTag via the UPI on the payment platform itself. This proposal will maintain users safety and security as it will bring an edge to directly visiting the retailers and heading to toll places to purchase a FASTag. ICICI Bank has emerged as the first bank to affiliate with Google Pay for the issuance of FASTags through this partnership. This will also reinforce online payments for FASTag. For facilitating the implementation of a contactless, secure, and hassle-free payment interface for travelers and to enable the use of FASTag, ICICI Bank has recently incorporated FASTag into the Mumbai toll places and parking area at Hyderabad International Airport.

In 2013, on the Mumbai - Vadodara route, ICICI Bank was the first to introduce the FASTag operation nationwide. Digital toll booths and other auxiliary initiatives of the National Highway Authorities of India are carried out through FASTag. In order to make state and national highway toll transactions entirely electronic, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), and the NHAI (National Highway Authorities of India) operate jointly. ICICI Bank's customers can use FASTag via the bank's electronic payment platforms, such as the iMobile app, online banking, the InstaBIZ app, the Pockets app, or by accessing the nearest bank branch. Using the UPI and NEFT networks of ICICI Bank, FASTag can be refilled with deposits online. Customers that are not of ICICI Bank can use the Pockets app or visit www.icicibank.com/fastag to buy FASTag. Additionally, on December 24, Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari made installation of FASTag compulsory from Jan 1, 2021, while payment of toll taxes via cash payment extended until February 15, 2021 for all automobiles across the country. He stated that FASTag will be beneficial for travelers as they will not have to wait for cash payments at toll points, which enable them to save fuel as well as their valuable time.
