A Step-By-Step Guide On How To Deactivate Paytm FASTag Following RBI Directives On Paytm Payments Bank

In a recent move impacting Paytm Payments Bank (PPBL), the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has directed the bank to cease accepting deposits or top-ups in customer accounts, including wallets and FASTags, after February 29. The decision follows a comprehensive system audit and compliance validation report conducted by external auditors. While the directive primarily targets Paytm's banking operations, customers can still utilize Paytm for digital payments as long as their accounts remain connected to an external bank, as stated by the RBI.

The central bank explicitly stated, "No further deposits or credit transactions or top-ups shall be allowed in any customer accounts, prepaid instruments, wallets, FASTags, NCMC cards, etc., after February 29, 2024, other than any interest, cashback, or refunds which may be credited anytime."

 Paytm FASTag

What is FASTag?

FASTag is an electronic toll collection system mandated for all four-wheeler vehicles. Operated by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), it utilizes Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for seamless toll booth payments through prepaid wallets.

RBI has allowed existing Paytm FASTag customers to utilize their remaining balances; however, they will not be able to load additional funds into these instruments starting from March 1. Paytm assured its users, stating, "You can continue using the existing balances on your Paytm FASTag. We are working on effective solutions to ensure a seamless customer experience and will keep you updated."

How to Deactivate Your Paytm FASTag:

Download the Paytm app: Ensure you have the Paytm app installed on your mobile device and log in using your existing credentials.

Navigate to FASTag Management: Type 'FASTag' in the search bar and tap on 'Manage FASTag' under the 'Services' section.

Review Active FASTag Accounts: A screen will display all the active FASTag accounts linked to your Paytm number.

Access Help & Support: Navigate to the bottom of the page and click on 'Help & Support.'

Select Query Option: Tap on 'Need help with non-order related queries?' and choose the 'Queries related to updating FASTag profile' option.

Initiate Closure Process: Look for the 'I want to close my FASTag' option, click on it, and follow the ensuing steps to complete the deactivation process.

This directive from the RBI signifies an important moment for Paytm and its users, prompting a need for quick action for those holding Paytm FASTags. As the bank and its associated services work on resolving the compliance issues highlighted by the external auditors, users are encouraged to stay informed and take necessary steps for the smooth transition of their digital financial activities. Paytm, a prominent player in the digital payments sector, will likely undergo changes in its banking operations to align with regulatory requirements in the coming days.
