On October 15, UIDAI via its X handler, said, "You may order an Aadhaar PVC card for each member of your family. You may use any mobile number for OTP authentication, regardless of your registered mobile number in your Aadhaar."

What is PVC Aadhaar?

In the year 2020, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) introduced a new facility and a major upgrade to the regular Aadhaar card. Known as PVC Aadhaar, this durable, handy plastic card, made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), offers a more convenient and secure alternative to the traditional paper-based Aadhaar. The card resembles a debit card size and is equally valid as the normal Aadhaar card. Other different types of Aadhaar are Aadhaar Letter, e-Aadhaar, and mAadhaar. All forms of Aadhaar are valid and acceptable across the nation for various purposes, such as government services, financial transactions, and identity verification.

Benefits and Difference Between a PVC Aadhaar and the Traditional Aadhaar Card:

PVC Aadhaar cards are a more durable and tamper-proof alternative to paper-based Aadhaar cards. If you have a paper-based Aadhaar card, you can easily upgrade to a PVC card online. This is a significant improvement over the paper-based Aadhaar letter, which could be easily damaged or lost. They are also more convenient and easy to carry around. Steps to Apply for a PVC Aadhaar Card Online:

1. Visit the official Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website at https://uidai.gov.in/en/.
2. Right on the homepage, you can look for a section called "My Aadhaar." Select the "Order Aadhaar" option.
3. Next, go to the "Order Aadhaar" section and choose the option "Request for Reprint.".
4. After this, you will be asked to enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number in the space provided.
5. Once entering the Aadhaar number, the next step is to verify your identity. You will need to provide your registered mobile number or email address. A one-time password (OTP) will be sent to your chosen method of contact.
6. After submitting the OTP and verifying your identification, you will be given options for the kind of Aadhaar card you are looking for. Choose the "PVC card" option.
7. In the next step, you will need to pay a nominal fee of Rs. 50/- (inclusive of the speed post and GST charges) for the PVC card. The payment can be made online using various payment methods like debit card, credit card, net banking, or UPI.
8. Once the payment is successful, you can review your details and submit your request.
9. After submitting your request, a SRN (Service Request Number) will be provided to track the progress of the request. You can use this number to track the status of your PVC card order.
10. While most PVC Aadhaar cards arrive within 3-5 business days as they are delivered via speed post, processing and delivery times can vary region to region. For a more accurate estimation of the delivery, users are advised to check the UIDAI website regularly.
