Aadhaar Services on SMS- How to Avail Aadhaar Services Through SMS Facility?

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has launched a service called "Aadhaar Services on SMS," which allows Aadhaar Number holders who do not have access to the internet/resident portal/m-Aadhaar, among other things, to use various Aadhaar services such as Virtual ID generation/retrieval, Aadhaar lock/unlock, Biometric lock/unlock, and so on, via SMS. Residents can obtain Aadhaar service by texting 1947 from their registered mobile phone. Residents can perform VID Generation/Retrieval, Lock/Unlock Aadhaar Number, and other functions by texting 1947 from their registered mobile number.

Is it necessary for me to generate OTP for all Aadhaar SMS services?

Only the Aadhaar Lock/Unlock and Biometric Lock/Unlock functions require OTP authentication. OTP is not required for VID generation or retrieval.

Note:

(1) To lock an Aadhaar number, a Virtual ID must be pre-generated; otherwise, you will not be able to lock it.

2) When multiple dependent Aadhaar Numbers are linked to the same mobile number, and the last four digits of the Aadhaar Numbers are the same for at least two dependents, a second SMS is sent as follows:

To Unlock Aadhaar

(1) This service is available only by passing the Virtual ID.
