The UIDAI has extended the deadline for free services in the Aadhaar update till December 14, 2024, compared to earlier September 14, 2024. This gives more days in hand for those who are looking to update either identity, mobile number, or address in 12-digit biometric. If the deadline is missed, from December 15, there will be charges on updating Aadhaar.
Aadhaar Update Free:
As per the UIDAI website, the upload of documents in support of identity and address is free till December 14, 2024. Updating these demographic details online is overall free.
Earlier, the deadline was on September 14, 2024, and is now extended for another 3 months.
What To Submit?
Under the free services, citizens can submit ration cards, Voter identity cards, Government-issued identity cards/ certificate having address, and Indian Passports serve as proof of both identity and address.
Also, details like PAN card, Driving license, Secondary or Senior School mark sheet/ School leaving certificate having a photograph, and Government-issued identity card/ certificate - which serve as the only proof of identity can be submitted.
Additionally, Electricity/water/gas bills (last 3 months), Bank / Post Office passbook, rent/ lease/ leave & license agreement, serving as proof of address only, are some of the other key information that can be updated.
How To Submit The Documents Online?
Step 1. Go to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in /, and log in using your Aadhaar number and one-time password (OTP) received on your registered mobile number.
Step 2. Check your identity and address details displayed in your profile.
Step 3. If the details displayed in your profile are incorrect, take action as described in response to Question 5 below.
Step 4. If the details displayed in your profile are correct, please click on the tab 'I verify that the above details are correct'.
Step 5. Select the identity document from the drop-down menu that you wish to submit.
Step 6. Upload your identity document (size less than 2 MB; file format JPEG, PNG or PDF)
Step 7. Select the address document from the drop-down menu that you wish to submit.
Step 8. Upload your address document (size less than 2 MB; file format JPEG, PNG or PDF).
Step 9. Submit your consent.
Aadhaar Update Charges & Fees:
If the deadline of December 14, 2024, is missed than any update in Aadhaar from December 15 will be liable for certain charges.
Biometric Update: Update of enrolled biometrics(fingerprint, iris and photo):
- If the update is done once between the age of 5-7 years, then the service is FREE.
- If the update is done between the ages of 15 to 17 year, still the service is FREE.
- If done otherwise, charge of Rs 100 will be imposed by UIDAI.
2. Demographic update: Update of enrolled name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number or email address, or any combination of the same.
- If the update is similar to the age group as the biometric update, then the service is FREE.
- If done separately, the service charge will be Rs 50.
3. Document Update: Submission of documents as proofs of identity and address, in support of the name, gender, date of birth, and address as enrolled:
- Using the myAadhaar portal, the service is FREE till December 14, 2024, after that Rs 50 charge will be levied.
- Update at the Aadhaar centre, the charge is Rs 50.
