The deadline to avail of higher pension benefits from the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) scheme is fast approaching. The opportunity to secure a higher pension is set to end soon, urging eligible individuals to take action before it's too late. If you haven't yet, you must act quickly if you want the higher pension from the Employees' Pension Scheme (EPS). The deadline to submit an application is Monday, June 26, 2023.

Recently, numerous questions about the calculation and documentation were cleared up by the Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO). Ahead of the deadline, candidates are scrambling to finish the registration process. Here is the process for submitting an application for a higher pension before the deadline.

Who can opt for higher pension from EPS?

The Supreme Court ruled that only two categories of employees are qualified to qualify for the higher pension from EPS:

  • Individuals who, as of September 1, 2014, were EPF and EPS members and remained so after that date
  • A higher pension was previously chosen by retirees who retired before September 1, 2014, but their applications were turned down by the EPFO authorities.

They are not permitted to choose a greater pension if an employee or pensioner does not meet these requirements. To give one example, no employee who joined the EPF and EPS system after September 1, 2014, is qualified to request a larger pension.
